About the Role

The Night Nurse Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of healthcare services during nighttime hours. Responsible for managing the nursing staff, the Nurse Manager will oversee the delivery of comprehensive care, including ambulatory, emergency, mental health, and infirmary care, in a collaborative environment. This role requires direct supervision of nursing staff and involvement in staff scheduling, training, performance guidance, and patient care to meet mission requirements and optimize operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line supervision of patient care provided by all nursing staff, including nursing assistants or technicians/medical assistants.
  • Plan, schedule, assign, and direct nursing care while independently evaluating efforts.
  • Collaborate on patient care interventions with other healthcare professionals using comprehensive patient status knowledge.
  • Regularly evaluate and revise patient treatment plans, collaborating with healthcare team members.
  • Assess treatment progress through patient record reviews, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines.
  • Communicate major changes in patient status to appropriate providers promptly.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with other healthcare disciplines.
  • Conduct staff in-services on nursing and medical care improvement.
  • Coordinate nursing care, treatment, and transport of acutely ill or injured patients.
  • Lead orientation and training for new nursing personnel, focusing on protocol and patient population specifics.
  • Analyze established practices to identify and implement improvement areas.
  • Participate in program design, strategy development, problem resolution, and project implementation.
  • Perform duties as a Registered Nurse to meet the agency’s mission needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program in the United States or its territories.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; graduate degree in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum six years of professional nursing experience.
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a detention/correctional healthcare setting preferred.

Required Licensure/Certification:

  • Current, full and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state or compact state allowing practice in the duty station state.
  • Maintain BLS for Healthcare Providers® certification through AHA.
  • Certified Correctional Health Professional, Certified Correctional Health Professional – Registered Nurse, Certified Corrections Nurse, or Certified Correctional Nurse/Manager credential preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
  • Cultural competency, integrity, and honesty.
  • Spanish proficiency preferred.
  • Experience in detention/correctional health care preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of complex nursing concepts for diverse assessments including mental health, medical surgical, ambulatory, and emergency nursing care.
  • Team building, staff development, and teaching skills.
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act for licensing state.
  • Ability to manage non-compliant patients and work in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office programs.
  • Understanding of HIPAA/Privacy Act regulations regarding confidentiality.

Schedule

Availability to work day, evening, and night shifts. Requires availability during weekends and holidays as well as emergency call back roster activation.

Pay: $52 + $5.09 Health & Wellness = $57.09 per hour total compensation package.
