Purpose and Scope

Provide Construction Cost Estimating support on a variety of engineering assignments associated with industrial base operations and maintenance of facilities infrastructure. The Cost Estimator is responsible for developing conceptual, ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude), and final estimates for facility modification and new construction projects with varying size and scope at the Kennedy Space Center and Canaveral Space Force Station. Cost estimates are prepared within the guidelines of the performance work statement and the CSI Master Format

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform Construction Cost Estimating activities in support of industrial base operations and maintenance of facilities infrastructure.
  • Ability to complete full quantity take-offs to support accurate estimates for all disciplines in industrial projects including, but not limited to civil and site work, structural, concrete, envelope, finishes, mechanical, and electrical.
  • A complete understanding of the interrelationship of the cost of labor, material, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs used at each level of an estimate is expected.
  • Exhibit proficiency in utilization of RS Means Estimating software. Ensure assigned projects are completed on time, and within approved scope and budget.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce documentation in support ROM and Task Plan efforts.
  • Interface with customers to comply with scope and schedule requirements.
  •       Experience performing manual take-offs (no software). Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, etc. 

·      Read and understand Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Information (RFI),drawings, and specification.

·      Strong understanding of scheduling and submittal processes.

·      Experience developing ROMs, Independent Cost Estimates, 100% Firm Fixed Price Estimates. Must understand and able to convey the steps to develop an estimate.

·      Extensive MEP experience with a heavy emphasis on Electrical. I.e. review/analyze scope, perform site visits, perform take-offs, etc.

·      Understand and participate in design processes from an estimating and constructability standpoint.

·      Excellent communication skills that will be demonstrated regularly with customers as well as within the organization.

  • Must have transportation to / from KSC and ability to work onsite during standard working hours, Mon-Friday.

Preferred, but not mandatory.

·      Trade specific college degree, apprenticeship certificate, or license.

·      CAD and / or MicroStation experience.

·      Familiar with Maximo.

·      Strong working knowledge

  • OSHA 10hr / 30hr construction training course.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in related field and five (5) years of construction estimating job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing for large commercial or industrial facilities is highly desired.
  • Proficient working knowledge of RS Means or similar Construction Cost Estimating software.
  • Demonstrable experience in ability to navigate through all sections of cost estimating software.
  • Working knowledge of Maximo
  • Must be a US Citizen and be able to pass security requirements for base access.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
