Purpose and Scope:

Electrical System Engineering position with senior level experience to develop and perform advanced task assignments for facility power distribution systems (up to 13.8 KV) at the Kennedy Space Center. The position will be to oversee: Mission Support planning and coordination; equipment Operations and Maintenance; electrical project planning; facility power system design, and mission test procedure development. The individual will have minimal oversight, be responsible for assigned Low Voltage power distribution systems, be knowledgeable of Medium Voltage power distribution systems, coordination with the Mission Support Office to support all Launch and Mission related activities and work with technical craft labor to maintain the overall health of assigned systems. The System Engineer will be required to work directly with other senior and entry level Systems and Design Engineers.

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

System Specific

聽聽聽聽聽聽Knowledge of electrical system protective relaying, Motor Controls, Switchgear operation and design, Power Transformers, Emergency Generators, Photovoltaic systems, UPS/Battery systems, VFD’s, Lightning Protection, Grounding and Bonding, Power system controls to include SCADA systems and power system PLC control Logic, LED and Traditional Lighting design.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Possess strong working knowledge and design capability of Medium and Low Voltage facility power distribution systems (Transformers, Substation Switchgear, panelboards, wiring, conduits and end devices).

聽聽聽聽聽聽Perform senior level range of facility electrical distribution system troubleshooting, design, and development of tasks in specific areas with minimal review and oversight.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Working with lower level engineers and shop electricians to promote and abide by engineering processes and industry consensus standards (NFPA, NEMA, ANSI, NETA, IEC, Etc.) to apply to new or existing power systems.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Adhere to of safety working practices for electrical systems to include NFPA 70E, 鈥淪tandard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace鈥, OSHA, NFPA 497, 鈥淩ecommended Practice for the Classification of Flammable Liquids, Gases, or Vapors and of Hazardous (Classified) Locations for Electrical Installations in Chemical Process Areas鈥. 6. Be able to interpret and provide guidance for power system single line and schematic electrical drawings. Also interpret and provide guidance to Arc Flash analysis documents to determine hazard levels for shop personnel.


聽聽聽聽聽聽Revise and add new asset information in Maximo database for assigned equipment per MAR (Maintenance Action Request) process.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Develop and maintain job plans and PMs for assigned equipment in accordance with EGS Operations and industry standard requirements.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals of assigned equipment.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Conduct site visits to investigate system problems, propose solutions and provide recommendations to restore systems.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues related to assigned equipment as needed. Provide technical expertise for technical anomalies as they arise. Resolve and document failure anomalies regarding assigned equipment.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Prepare Technical Anomaly reports and presentations documenting problems, concerns and resolutions for assigned equipment to the Engineering Review Board.

Integrated Ops Support

聽聽聽聽聽聽Coordinate NASA and customer related mission activities to support the EGS customer launch schedule to include: launch site test plan development and coordination with EGS Solumina documents, mission support training certifications and Launch Control Center console test support certifications.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Participate in console operation during test and launch operations as needed for assigned systems supporting launch and processing facilities and as necessary for other Spaceport Users test and launch operations where assigned systems/equipment are required to support.


聽聽聽聽聽聽Provide input to and actively participate in applicable System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Develop and present or represent mission related presentations to the NASA and/or EGS customer as required to present support readiness or failure concerns.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Perform readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.

Project Support

聽聽聽聽聽聽Coordinate and work closely with requester, customers, other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from concept to final design and commissioning activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Support development of technical proposals, statements of work and/or provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Develop task order requirements to NASA to complete Operations & Maintenance Documentation (OMD) updates per specific, contracted timeframes. OMD updates could be on drawings or job plans for assigned equipment/systems.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Coordinate and communicate effectively with CAD drafters, Design Engineers, or shop personnel by written or verbal means.


聽聽聽聽聽聽Be able to interpret and provide guidance for assigned equipment using single line and schematic drawings.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Assess assigned systems and equipment for necessary upgrades to meet new code requirements, or enhance operation

聽聽聽聽聽聽Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Education and Experience Requirements:

聽聽聽聽聽聽Bachelor鈥檚 Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related electrical engineering field and 5+ years of job-related experience or equivalent.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Strong communications and analytical skills.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Working knowledge of computer systems, integrated software application programs and PLC software control systems.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Ability to lead team resolution or design efforts to rapid conclusion.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing and standard Microsoft Office software to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.

聽聽聽聽聽聽Knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SKM, ETAP, PLC interface software, etc.).

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Working Knowledge of PLC control logic diagrams.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline Engineering drawings. Working knowledge of industry electrical codes and standards, operation and maintenance of power distribution systems, and interior/exterior lighting.

Preferred Qualifications:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽May require some limited travel.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
