Position Summary
The Biomedical Engineer / Field Service Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and diagnosis of medical equipment in compliance with all regulatory and safety standards. This licensed and credentialed professional delivers on-site and remote technical support, ensuring the reliability and safety of medical devices. The role includes documentation, preventive maintenance, and collaboration with clinical and facility staff to support optimal patient care environments.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Repair & Diagnosis
- Perform troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of a wide range of medical equipment.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions to restore functionality.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and safety inspections according to manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed in a timely and efficient manner to minimize equipment downtime.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of service activities, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Ensure all work complies with federal, state, and facility-specific regulations, including documentation for audits and inspections.
- Document and report equipment failures, hazards, and incidents as required.
Technical Support & Training
- Provide technical support and guidance to clinical staff on the safe and effective use of medical equipment.
- Train facility personnel on basic troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.
- Stay current with new technologies, equipment updates, and regulatory requirements.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with facility management and clinical teams to schedule repairs and maintenance with minimal disruption to patient care.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in equipment-related audits or inspections.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
- Active, unrestricted license and credentials to service medical equipment in the state of practice.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in biomedical equipment repair and maintenance.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, service software (e.g., Workday), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification, offered by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, correctional, or government facility environments.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.
- Reporting & Supervision
- Reports to: Facility Manager or Biomedical Engineering Supervisor.
- Collaborates with: Clinical staff, facility operations, and equipment vendors.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass background check and security clearance.
- Participate in initial and annual training on equipment safety, infection control, and emergency response.
Physical Demands
- All candidates must be physically able to perform all strenuous duties entailed in this position. Candidates will be able to exert themselves under rigorous environmental conditions. These physical demands are including but not limited to pulling up or repositioning patients, lifting supplies, bending over to perform certain duties.
- This individual must also be able to maneuver throughout small hallways and many stairways either in response to emergencies or to conduct daily responsibilities.
- This candidate will be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath. Coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving such as: stooping, bending, lifting, pulling, and twisting. Able to walk long distances up to and including 200ft over uneven dirt grounds.
- Candidates will possess the ability to work irregular hours; and will be flexible to change location within a sector when asked.
