Director of Network Operations

Job Description

Summary

The Director of Network Operations is responsible for the strategy, design, security, availability, and operational excellence of the organization’s network and telecommunications environment. This role provides leadership and oversight for corporate headquarters, data centers, cloud connectivity, and geographically distributed remote offices, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable network services that support business operations and growth.

The Director leads network engineering and operations teams, manages ISP and telecom provider relationships, establishes standards and architectures, and ensures high availability, performance, and compliance across all network services.

Pay Rate: $165,000/salary

Duties and Functions

Network Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and execute the enterprise network strategy aligned with business objectives and IT roadmap.
  • Own network architecture for LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD‑WAN, VPN, and cloud connectivity (Azure/AWS/GCP as applicable).
  • Establish network standards, design patterns, and documentation for corporate and remote office environments.
  • Lead network modernization initiatives, including cloud networking, zero‑trust architectures, and network automation.

Operations & Reliability

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and resiliency of all network and telecom services.
  • Oversee 24×7 network operations, monitoring, incident response, and problem management.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis and corrective action for major network incidents.
  • Define and track SLAs, KPIs, and operational metrics for network performance and uptime.

Telecom & ISP Management

  • Own relationships with ISPs, carriers, and telecom providers (internet, MPLS, SD‑WAN, voice, cellular).
  • Lead contract negotiations, renewals, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Manage circuit inventory, bandwidth planning, redundancy, and failover strategies.
  • Coordinate provider escalations and service restoration for outages affecting business operations.

Security & Compliance

  • Partner with Information Security to design and operate secure network architectures.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee network security controls including firewalls, segmentation, VPNs, NAC, and DDoS protections.
  • Support audits and risk assessments related to network and telecom infrastructure.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing network engineering and operations team.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and on‑call/support models.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate staffing models, including internal resources and managed service providers.

Budget & Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage the network operations and telecom budget.
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities without compromising reliability or security.
  • Manage vendors, integrators, and managed service providers delivering network services.
  • Ensure vendor performance aligns with contractual SLAs and business expectations.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with application, cloud, security, and end‑user IT teams to ensure network services meet business needs.
  • Communicate network health, risks, and initiatives to executive leadership.
  • Support business expansion, new site openings, and mergers/acquisitions from a network perspective.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree or equivalent career experience

Preferred Requirements

8-10 Years of network operations management experience required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Knowledge—extensive background in complex, multi-site enterprise network support.

Skill—Cisco or related certification.

Ability— verifiable experience supporting similar product mix and network infrastructure to Loyal Source environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Will supervise other network support staff including network architects, engineers, admins as other roles as necessary.

Work Environment/Condition

Work is generally office based, remote device management but may occasionally require site visits to managed environments and may require installation and support of physical infrastructure.

Physical Demands

Regularly seated at desk but may require installation and lifting of network devices, typically under 40 pounds.
