Otolaryngology Technician

Job Description

Position Summary

Provides technical and clinical support for otolaryngology surgical and clinic services, assisting providers during ENT procedures and ensuring safe patient preparation and equipment management.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program recognized by CAAHEP or ABHES. Equivalency determinations are not permitted. Minimum of 12 months of experience within the past 36 months as a surgical services technician.

Certifications

Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and a current Certified Surgical Technician (CST) certification through approved organizations such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Licensure

None required.

Contract Worker Standard Qualifications

·       Serve as scrub assistant to surgeons during major and minor otolaryngology procedures.

·       Prepare patients, instruments, supplies, and equipment for ENT surgical and diagnostic procedures.

·       Assist surgeons and nursing staff with intraoperative and post‑operative patient care.

·       Perform point‑of‑use cleaning and support high‑level disinfection (HLD) of laryngoscopes and surgical instruments.

·       Monitor patients in recovery areas and assist with identification and management of post‑operative complications.

·       Record vital signs, medications, and clinical intake information accurately in patient records.

·       Assist with removal of nasal packing, splints, sutures, wound care, and dressing changes as directed.

·       Operate and maintain diagnostic and therapeutic equipment in clinic and operating room settings.

·       Support Speech Pathology procedures including laryngoscopy and swallowing evaluations.

·       Maintain inventory control, equipment readiness, and safe work environments.

·       Perform administrative and scheduling tasks related to ENT clinic operations.

·       Adhere to infection control, safety, ethical standards, and all Medical Treatment Facility policies.
