Job Description
Position Summary
Provides outpatient nursing support in a Family Medicine clinic, assisting providers with direct patient care, medications, procedures, documentation, and coordination of services.
Legal Authorization to Work in the United States
The contract worker under this contract must either be a U.S. citizen or as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, either a noncitizen national of the United States, lawful permanent resident of the United States, or alien authorized to work in the United States.
Education and Experience
Degree/Education: Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Experience: Two years of practical or vocational nurse experience in an outpatient setting within the past three years.
Certifications
Must hold and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Computer-based training is not sufficient. All certifications must be maintained at no cost to the Government.
Board Certification
None.
Licensure
Must have and maintain a current, full, active, and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse license in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
Contract Worker Standard Qualifications
Must have understanding of and ability to correctly utilize and/or apply medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures, patient care, emergency medical treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, preparation and administration of oral and parenteral medications, vaccination procedures, mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment; risk management; medical contingency operations; and use of automated medical records systems.
Initiate, perform, and complete assigned patient care duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Complete assigned patient care based on patient condition, selecting appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments. Observe, identify, and respond to patient needs, prepare and administer medications, recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance when required, maintain accurate documentation, ensure infection control, maintain equipment readiness, participate in training, and establish professional interpersonal relationships contributing to mission accomplishment.
