Secret Cleared Telecommunications Technician – Fiber Optic Test & Verification (Lackland AFB)
Pay Rate: $41 / hour
Loyal Source Government Services is seeking 2 Secret Cleared Telecommunications Technicians to support an immediate project at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. This position is focused specifically on fiber optic testing, verification, and documentation within a DoD environment. The assignment is expected to run through mid-October, with the potential for permanent placement on future contracts for top performers.
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced, hands-on telecommunications technicians with a strong background in fiber optic testing and troubleshooting. This is not a network administration, systems administration, or software support role. Candidates must have recent, practical experience operating fiber test equipment independently, including setup, calibration, testing, and interpretation of results.
Required Experience
Candidates must have current, hands-on experience with one or more of the following fiber optic testing platforms:
- Fluke Versiv
- Fluke DTX-1800
- OTDR / OLTS Test Sets
- EXFO MaxTester 945
- EXFO MaxTester 730C
- Equivalent industry-standard fiber test equipment
Experience must include:
- Setting up fiber testing equipment
- Field calibration of test units
- Performing OTDR and OLTS testing
- Reading and interpreting fiber test results
- Troubleshooting fiber faults and performance issues
- Producing accurate testing documentation and reports
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fiber optic testing and verification on DoD telecommunications infrastructure.
- Conduct OTDR and OLTS testing to verify system performance and compliance.
- Interpret test results and identify deficiencies or failures.
- Document testing results and maintain quality records.
- Support telecom infrastructure surveys and validation activities.
- Ensure work complies with project specifications and industry standards.
- Work closely with project leadership to support installation verification and project closeout.
Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance (minimum requirement)
- Minimum 5+ years of telecommunications or structured cabling experience
- Strong background in fiber optic testing and certification
- Experience with OSP and ISP telecommunications infrastructure preferred
- Ability to read plans, specifications, and telecom drawings
- Experience in federal or DoD environments preferred
- Manufacturer fiber certifications and/or BICSI certifications are a plus
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking true telecommunications technicians with proven fiber testing experience.
Candidates who primarily identify as:
- System Administrators
- Network Engineers
- Software Technicians
and only have exposure to telecom projects without actually performing fiber testing and certification work will not be considered.
Duration & Future Opportunities
- Immediate start
- Project expected to continue through mid-October based on production schedules
- High-performing technicians may be considered for long-term or permanent opportunities supporting additional telecommunications projects nationwide upon completion of the Lackland AFB assignment
